BlueCare Dental and Vision Plans Ending in 2026
Last year, BlueCross BlueShield announced it would sunset a portion of its BlueCare Dental and Vision policies on January 1st. Anyone who was on one of these plans in 2025 was informed that their policy would not be renewed in 2026. The list of policies includes:
1. BlueCare Dental Classic Standard
2. BlueCare Dental Classic Premier
3. BlueCare Dental Classic Basic
4. BlueCare Vision Basic
5. BlueCare Vision Premier
6. BlueCare Vision Standard
If your BlueCare policy is not on this list, you are fine, and your plan will continue. So, what happens if you had one of these plans?
If you are on Medicare, BlueCross BlueShield automatically switched you over to either their Blue Dental Plus Standard or Blue Dental Plus Premier plan. These plans share the same provider network, and updated ID cards were automatically sent out. The plan benefits for these plans are nearly identical to the expired BlueCare dental plans, so you can expect to use your new plan exactly the same as before.
If you are under 65 and had one of these dental plans, or if you had one of the BlueCare vision plans, you were NOT automatically moved to another plan. This means your plan is gone, and if you did not buy a new policy, you no longer have insurance.
