Important July Updates for Individual Healthcare.gov Clients
There have been two huge updates to the Individual Marketplace that directly affect your healthcare coverage through Healthcare.gov. Please take a moment to read this carefully; your insurance and financial assistance may depend on it.
#1 Did You Passively Renew for 2024? Immediate Action Required by August 7!
If you didn’t actively renew your Healthcare.gov plan during Open Enrollment, meaning you let it auto-renew without updating anything, your application is now under audit by the Marketplace. This is a new policy change from the federal government, and it could result in the loss of:
Your subsidy (financial aid), or
Your current insurance, as some individuals are being moved to Medicaid without warning.
What You Need to Do:
Search your email for a message from Healthcare.gov that looks like the one below (see sample images below).
If you find it, forward it to us immediately so we can help you fix your application before the August 7 deadline.
If you know you worked with us and actively renewed during Open Enrollment, you’re likely fine. No action is needed unless you receive that email.
Note: We cannot see who passively renewed vs. who didn’t — only you will know by checking your email.
For more info on this policy update, see the latest article from CMS.
#2 A Big Transition is Coming: Illinois is Moving Off Healthcare.gov to GetCovered.Illinois.gov
This August, the state of Illinois will transition its Marketplace from the federal Healthcare.gov platform to its own site: getcovered.illinois.gov.
What This Means for You:
Your insurance policy will be transferred from the federal system to the Illinois state system.
The state and insurance carriers have warned: this transfer may not be smooth.
Errors and issues are expected, and they’ll likely require your engagement to correct.
What You Can Expect:
We will begin reaching out to you by email and phone as soon as the process begins.
No immediate action is needed today, but it will be required soon.
It is absolutely critical that you respond and participate in this process to ensure your policy transfers correctly and your coverage remains uninterrupted.
