Coverage For Children With Special Needs

Open enrollment season is upon us and there are policies available to help kiddos with special needs have access to unlimited ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis), Speech, Occupational and Physical therapy. In an ever-changing health insurance landscape, parents often must make difficult and complex decisions. These decisions can be compounded when a kiddo is special needs. Fortunately, there are child-only policies to help access benefits. Read on to learn more about this option.

Parents may choose to enroll in an additional or stand-alone policy for just their child or children. These policies offer  unlimited ABA, Mental, Speech, Occupational and Physical therapy services. Blue Cross Blue Shield individual PPO policies start at around $250 per month. “In this scenario, you can pay for therapeutic preschool, full intensive day therapeutic programs or even weekly visits,” says Alexandra Eidenberg, Founder and President of The Insurance People. “These policies can be used as a secondary policy - for example, you may have a great group plan, but it may not cover the therapeutic care your kids need. Then you can add this to supplement your policy.”

You may have a kiddo that is newly diagnosed and needing services or had a change to your current insurance that does not allow for the needed services anymore. Right now it’s open enrollment. There are no prerequisites or medical underwriting to apply.

The Insurance People can help you evaluate your options and select the best policy to suit your needs. For example, we recommend selecting the bronze package for those with regular usage, while we suggest the gold plan for kids who are using services once or twice a week.
