Special Enrollment Periods

Open Enrollment for Small Groups begins September 15, 2023 and for Individuals begins November 1, 2023. If you do not apply during Open Enrollment, you can apply throughout the year when you have a Special Enrollment Period (SEP). Keep reading for everything you need to know about enrolling in health insurance outside of open enrollment.

How to Qualify

Life-changing events like getting married, divorced, moving, or switching jobs are just a few of the significant life events which allow you to enroll outside of Open Enrollment. Before assuming you’re stuck without health insurance, always double-check whether or not you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP). See the full list of qualifying life events here

What You Need to Apply

Depending on the reason you qualify for special enrollment, you may have to provide proof. For example, if you got married, you will need to submit documentation - like your marriage certificate - to prove you have a Special Enrollment Period (SEP). You can find the paperwork you will need based on your qualifying life event here.

Timing for Special Enrollment

You have up to 62 days from your life-changing event to enroll using a Special Enrollment Period. If you know insurance is a priority in your life make sure to use your SEP time period to enroll into a policy that meets your budget and network needs.

Special enrollment is a great option for people who have had significant life changes and need health coverage. If you have questions or are interested in having an expert help you enroll, contact us to get in touch with one of our agents.
